Metal-insulator transitions in the Falicov-Kimball model with disorder

چکیده
The ground-state phase diagrams of the Falicov-Kimball model with local disorder are derived within the dynamical mean-field theory and using the geometrically averaged s“typical”d local density of states. Correlated metal, Mott insulator, and Anderson insulator phases are identified. The metal-insulator transitions are found to be continuous. The interaction and disorder compete with each other stabilizing the metallic phase against the occurring one of the insulators. The Mott and Anderson insulators are found to be continuously connected.

Exact solution of the Falicov-Kimball model with dynamical mean-field theory
The Falicov-Kimball model was introduced in 1969 as a statistical model for metal-insulator transitions; it includes itinerant and localized electrons that mutually interact with a local Coulomb interaction and is the simplest model of electron correlations. It can be solved exactly with dynamical mean-field theory in the limit of large spatial dimensions which provides an interesting benchmark...
متن کاملCharge - transfer metal - insulator transitions in the spin - 12 Falicov - Kimball model
The spin1 2 Falicov-Kimball model is solved exactly on an infinite-coordination-number Bethe lattice in the thermodynamic limit. This model is a paradigm for a charge-transfer metal-insulator transition, where the occupancy of localized and delocalized electronic orbitals rapidly changes at the metal-insulator transition ~rather than the character of the electronic states changing from insulati...
متن کاملTheory of Valence Transitions in Ytterbium-based Compounds
The anomalous behavior of YbInCu4 and similar compounds is modeled by the exact solution of the spin one-half Falicov-Kimball model in infinite dimensions. The valence-fluctuating transition is related to a metal-insulator transition caused by the Falicov-Kimball interaction, and triggered by the change in the f-occupancy.

In this letter we study the ground-state phase diagram of the one-dimensional Falicov-Kimball model. This model was proposed to describe metal-insulator transitions [ 1] and has since been investigated in connection with a variety of problems such as binary alloys [ 2], ordering in mixed-valence systems [ 3], and the formation of ionic crystals [ 4]. It is the latter language we shall use here,...
متن کاملPhotoinduced insulator-metal transition in correlated electrons — a Floquet analysis with the dynamical mean-field theory
In order to investigate photoinduced insulator-metal transitions observed in correlated electron systems, we propose a new theoretical method, where we combine a Floquetmatrix method for AC-driven systems with the dynamical mean-field theory. The method can treat nonequilibrium steady states exactly beyond the linear-response regime. We have applied the method to the Falicov-Kimball model coupl...
